Group 5 Bursaries
Engineering bursaries offering tuition, work experience, and mentorship for students who have already successfully completed their 1st year of study.
Group 5 is considered to be one of the top 10 most empowered companies in South Africa as rated by the Financial Mail. The group’s BEE transaction was finalised in 2005 when 26.1% ownership of the company was made available to Black employees, iLima consortium and the Mvelaphanda Group Limited. The company currently holds a level 2 BBBEE certification.
The company has worked on major projects in its 40 year history, most recently completing construction of the Nelson Mandela Children’s’ Hospital in located in Parktown. Other notable projects include the Kusile Power Station; the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project; construction of the King Shaka Airport in KZN; and the Nasrec Metrorail infrastructure that serviced the FNB Stadium during the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
Group 5 Bursary Program Overview
The role of the company’s bursaries is to provide candidates with practical working experience within one of the company’s divisions. The bursary programme seeks applicants who have shown consistently good performance throughout their studies.
Candidates can be registered at a university of their choice. Students enrolled in a university of technology are also able to apply provided that they are registered for a National Diploma.
The bursary programme covers tuition fees. Upon earning their qualification, bursary recipients join the Graduate Development Programme, and will have the opportunity to work on local and international projects, based on availability.
Students will have a network of support throughout their studies, with mentorship and guidance by senior managers and career coaches.
Group 5 offers opportunities for students studying for a BSc or BTech in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering; Quantity Surveying; and Construction Management.
Group 5 advertises available bursary programmes on the career portal of their website in December.. Applications close at the end of January, prior to the beginning of the new academic year.
