Stanlib Bursary Program Overview
The company’s higher education programme was started in 2005, and has since helped 46 financially needy students to get access to a university qualification.
The bursary programme is available to South African citizens. Stanlib selects students who have exceptional results in Grade 11 and Matric, with a 70% aggregate score and Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) as one of their subjects. Students should also meet the entry requirements for the university and degree that they are applying to.
Applicants are welcome to choose which university they apply to; however it must be accredited by Stanlib.
The bursary covers registration and tuition fees in full. Depending on the needs of the student, the bursary may also make provisions for accommodation, prescribed books, meal allowances and other living expenses.
Bursary recipients may be given an opportunity to get work experience at Stanlib during university vacation. Stanlib does not guarantee employment following the student’s qualification; however bursars will be given preference if they apply for the company’s graduate programme.
Keeping in line with their core business operations, Stanlib supports students pursuing studies in Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Investment Management, and Accounting.
Stanlib sponsors both undergraduate and postgraduate studies up to Honours level. The bursary is renewed annually if the student maintains a satisfactory academic performance.
The application form for the bursary can be downloaded from Stanlib’s website. Applications open in September and close at the end of October each year. Applicants will need to provide certified copies of their June results if they are in Matric, or their most recent academic transcript if they are already in university.
Candidates must also include documents to confirm their financial situation, such as parents’ or guardians’ pay slips. Applications forms must be returned to Stanlib via email, post or hand delivered to the company’s headquarters in Johannesburg.
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be contacted for an interview. Bursaries are awarded at the beginning of the new academic year following the confirmation of the student’s final results.
